The City of Charlotte (NC) is seeking an executive leader to serve as Solid Waste Services Director. Duties will include formulating/supervising administration of Solid Waste Services’ programs, and directing the department’s core business of providing residential full-service collection of garbage, recycling, yard waste, and bulky items under a Managed Competition and Optimization Business Model. This highly visible position requires an individual with excellent leadership and strategic planning skills; demonstrated interpersonal and public communication skills; significant experience and knowledge of large and complex organizational operations (public sector experience a plus). Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a BS/BA in a related field, Master’s preferred; broad and extensive experience in public works, environmental services, or a related field, including extensive administrative and managerial experience; experience in a Managed Competition environment preferred. Will need to possess proven ability to work collaboratively and to build relationships among management, employees and external audiences; experience with managing capital and operating budgets; and a strong customer service orientation.
